Building and enjoying a different dial - Namoki Mods Ice Blue Arabic

There are dials that can make you loose your head. Light blue or (Tiffany blue) is been a popular colour from Patek Philippe to Rolex. The ice shade on a dial is something that stopped the watch world for a split second. The amount paid for watches that contained these dials with this particular blue has been staggering, we are not sure why? but I think versatility has a lot to do with it.

While price keep rising, the possibilities of owning something truly special seems out of reach for must of us, and here is where Namoki enters. Namoki is a brand that is specialized on offering components to modify watches, mostly Seikos, but they have also brought to the market an array of amazing finished products. This new collaboration with SVK is one of the most impressive products I’ve seen from the brand. 

Let’s begin unraveling what the process of making a watch that feels special feels like .

The specifications 

The right size is everything for a watch , at 38mm this mod beauty feels right in my 6.25 inch wrist. The case has similarities with offerings from more established brands but that’s not a bad thing, it means it wears like a charm.

The way that the case looks it’s great, but the dial is where the party is.

The icy blue dial with sunburst is amazing, when light hits well the quality is obvious, it all feels sharp. The applied numerals bring good contrast to the composition and even if the day date at 3 o clock breaks the dial, the result is coherent. Another great detail is the that the date wheel alternates with Eastern Arabic characters, attention to detail.

Powering the watch there is a reliable Seiko NH36A which includes the date-day function, all clever and ready to make a statement. The main reason why it all works it’s because the mix components, high offering with enthusiast quality.

the watch also comes with a solid stainless steel bracelet, it is well made and feels as sturdy as the case, there is no playing with the links which makes you wonder how they managed to keep the price of this Mod kit so low, more on that later.#

On the wrist

We mentioned the size at 38mm, which means that this modification can fit many of us. It seems to be that this particular case shape paired with the bracelet works pretty well.

The quality feel of the bracelet is worth highlighting again, it not only elevates the everyday experience but it also gives this weight/quality sensation of a more expensive watch.

This Ice Blue Mod is a classic example of how can a dial influence the wearing experience. The light blue blends in most situation, feels good in summer but also adapts to winter. It not entirely elegant but it can work on those situations.

I wore the Namoki mostly at the office and at home, couldn’t get over how special it looked, it breaks my monochromatic outfit most of the time, I am sold.

Legibility it’s a great point also, the placement of the day-date is spot on and the blued dark hands contrast well with the dial. This last point was of of concern but I can clarify that it doesn’t affect the reading of the watch in any form.

The watch does wear well on a leather strap too, but I think a grey nato might be the ay to go, sure it won't be as sporty but it would look great.

Conclusions 

Assembling a watch it’s quite a task but it’s a lovely one, I am not saying that is the only way to feel attached to watches but this is is definitely a piece that will stay with me because of the work I’ve put on it. 

I must say that it’s an addictive process also, I cannot wait to try and do one more watch from the brand. They keep coming with exciting designs which are backed up by a large community of enthusiasts, somehow you instantly feel part of it.

Finishing with the watch, the mod kit for the Ice Blue Arabic is 251 GBP which is outstanding value, specially when a Seiko counterpart is twice that and half as fun.
