Colour, Precision, and Motorsport Style:Geylang Apex Chronograph

Being different is not a gimmick in watchmaking, it is often the quickest route to something better. A colourful, compact chronograph does not just stand out in a sea of predictable designs, it works harder for the wearer. When a watch is designed with personality and restraint at the same time, it becomes the kind of piece you actually reach for, easy to wear, easy to read, and instantly recognisable as yours.

That approach suits motorsport perfectly, because racing is decided by the smallest margins, where preparation, timing, and consistency separate quick from flawless. A chronograph belongs in that world as a genuine tool, built around precision on demand, you start, you stop, you reset, cleanly and confidently, just like lap times, pit windows, and split second decisions.

Today, we have a new brand, and its latest chronograph, the Apex Chronograph. Geylang Watch Co. comes from a lifelong fascination with mechanical watches and the more unusual corners of a crowded horological world. Inspired by the colourful, edgy streets of Geylang, it brings that cultural energy into its designs. Each watch is hand assembled, regulated, and tested individually, with collections shaped by years of design experience. It keeps things fun and a little cheeky, adding lightness to an industry that can be too serious.

On the Apex Chronograph, colour is not decoration, it is clarity. The contrasting sub dials and accents make each function easier to distinguish, so your eye does not search, it goes straight to what matters. At a glance, you can pick out the registers and the hands, read the information quickly, and then operate the pushers with a simple click.

Join me as we get into the details of this watch, which is recognisable from a mile away.

Technical specifications

The dial is bright and busy in the best way, with a clean white, lightly textured base that lets the colour do the talking. Two recessed sub dials sit in contrast, one in a vivid turquoise and the other in a warm orange red, giving the chronograph layout instant personality and making each register easy to pick out at a glance. Slim black hands keep the time telling legible, while a vibrant orange chronograph seconds hand adds a proper sense of motion across the dial. Around the outside, a finely printed track and small pops of green on the hour markers bring extra depth, and the angled cushion case framing it all makes the dial feel even more focused and compact.

The Apex Chronograph is housed in a compact 38mm cushion case crafted from 316L stainless steel, chosen for its corrosion resistance and everyday toughness. It is offered either in a polished silver finish for a brighter, dressier look, or with a PVD matte black coating for a more understated, sportier feel. Topping it off is a sapphire crystal, a premium choice for scratch resistance and long term clarity over the dial.

Inside the Apex Chronograph is a hybrid mecha quartz movement, combining the accuracy and low maintenance of quartz with a more mechanical style chronograph action.

The chronograph seconds hand engages sharply, and the pushers have a firmer, more positive click than a typical quartz, so starting, stopping, and resetting feels deliberate and satisfying. It fits the Apex Chronograph’s motorsport character, delivering dependable precision with an engaging, tool like response.

On the wrist

With a 38mm case and a 45mm lug to lug measurement, the Apex Chronograph wears compact and nicely proportioned, and on my 6.25 inch wrist it sits squarely without any overhang. The 11.7mm thickness keeps it comfortably low profile for a chronograph, so it feels balanced and slides under a cuff without fuss. A 20mm lug width gives it a planted stance and makes strap changes easy, while the C1 lume on both the dial and hands boosts low light legibility without disrupting the clean look in daylight.

The Apex Chronograph is for someone who wants a chronograph that feels like a proper tool, but does not look like every other racing watch. It suits enthusiasts who value legibility and quick, at a glance information, and who enjoy a bit of colour and character on the wrist. It is also ideal for anyone with smaller to medium wrists who struggles with bulky chronographs, because the 38mm cushion case and compact proportions keep it comfortable and wearable all day.

On the Apex Chronograph, the 20 mm black-and-red FMK rubber strap looks made for the job, adding a crisp, performance vibe that matches the sporty dial. It feels smooth and premium on-wrist, staying flexible and comfortable while handling sweat and daily wear with ease.

In day to day wear, the Apex Chronograph feels most at home as a smart casual, go anywhere piece. The compact 38mm cushion case makes it easy to live with at the office, out for coffee, or running errands, and the colour coded dial stays legible even when you only have a second to glance down. Where it really clicks is in those moments that suit its racing spirit, timing a commute, a gym session, or anything you instinctively want to measure, start, stop, reset, with that crisp pusher action that feels properly motorsport inspired. It also works brilliantly at weekends with a jacket, denim, or anything with a sporty edge. I would not position it as a formal black tie watch, but for travel, casual evenings, and everyday wear with a bit of pace, it fits in effortlessly.

Concluding thoughts

As you can probably tell, I have enjoyed this chronograph a lot, photographing it was a great experience, only matched by actually wearing it. The colours and the cushion case lines catch the light brilliantly, and the watch has that rare quality of looking even better the more time you spend with it.

At £266, the Apex Chronograph feels like strong value, especially for a hybrid mecha quartz chronograph that delivers both everyday accuracy and that satisfying, crisp chronograph operation. The compact 38mm case, sapphire crystal, and genuinely usable colour coded dial make it feel considered and purpose built, rather than simply styled to look fast.

What really comes through is the effort from Geylang Watch Co., there is a clear point of view here, with bold design choices that still prioritise legibility and wearability, and a level of attention that suggests they care about the details, not just the headline specs. Overall, it is a chronograph with personality and practicality in equal measure, and for the money it is an easy one to recommend if you want something different that still does the job properly. It also leaves me wanting to see more from the brand, especially the direction they are taking with their carbon Mil Sub pieces.
