The Salmon Dial Effect - Wecord The Duke

In my previous review of the Duke here and I mentioned that fashion brands are catching up, and nothing makes that more obvious than a release like this salmon-dial variant from Wecord. It might sound like a small change, just another colourway, but it signals something more important, the brand clearly knows its audience, and it knows there are watch nerds paying attention.

Their newest Duke variant with a salmon dial is outstanding, it is appealing in its own right, but they have also paired it with a tapisserie-style patterned dial and the result is genuinely striking. If we split those two elements, starting with the colour, it is easy to see why salmon matters. It has long been used by high-end brands, often in small runs or special editions, which makes it less common and, naturally, more desirable. It is not just hype, either, a good salmon dial relies on subtle finishing, whether that is brushing, graining, plating, or lacquer, and when it is done well it tends to show the quality of the execution.

The tapisserie texture is also not as simple as it looks. Yes, on the newest Duke it is machine-pressed, but if you look closely, the definition is excellent, and that would be impressive at almost any price point, which we will come back to later. Best of all, the Duke’s core package remains unchanged, and there is still a lot to like, so let’s get into why this piece works so well.

The specifications

Rectangular watches live and die by their geometry. If the angles are too severe, or the footprint feels too flat, they can come across as stiff on the wrist. The Duke avoids that and instead feels naturally composed. At 32mm wide with a 41mm lug-to-lug, it sits neatly on my 6.25-inch wrist with room to spare, and, more importantly, it looks settled and deliberate rather than small or blocky. It is the sort of shape that makes sense the moment you put it on.

The case shows real care in the execution. Brushed surfaces meet polished accents with crisp separation, giving the watch definition without shouting. Up top, the bezel stays slim and precise, while the structure beneath it adds a stronger outline to the mid-case, before the design tightens as it meets the bracelet. The lines feel controlled and cohesive, like every edge has a purpose.

With the salmon tapisserie dial, the Duke comes across as less playful and more refined. The copper-pink hue adds richness, making the watch feel closer to a proper dress piece, especially paired with the clean layout and restrained wording. It is the same design, but the mood is noticeably more grown-up and quietly luxurious.

Just like its cousin, behind it all is a dependable Swiss Ronda movement, specifically the 1062. The decision to skip a running seconds hand is a good one here, it keeps the dial calmer, and it preserves the clean, composed look.

On the wrist

One of the Duke’s best tricks is how slim it feels on the wrist. At an ultra-thin 6mm, the case keeps a properly low profile, so it slips under a cuff without fuss and never feels top-heavy. That thinness, paired with the rectangular shape, gives it a neat, tidy presence, more refined than showy. Add to that a very manageable 105g, and it wears with the sort of easy comfort you stop noticing after a few minutes.

The bracelet is where the watch really comes together. It drapes with a proper sense of fluidity, following the wrist rather than sitting like a rigid band. Each link feels as though it has been designed to keep the line continuous from case to clasp, so the whole watch wears as one smooth piece rather than a head bolted onto a strap .

The butterfly clasp finishes that idea nicely. It disappears once shut, closing with a clean, symmetrical fold that keeps the underside sleek and the bracelet’s flow uninterrupted, no bulky clasp block, no visual break, specially when you add the ‘’Wecord’’ name on each side, just a seamless look that suits the watch’s dressy intentions.

In terms of where it belongs, the Duke feels completely at home with lighter, sharper styling, a white shirt, cream knitwear, or an all-white summer outfit. It also pairs brilliantly with tailoring, especially navy, charcoal, or tan suits, finished with brown shoes, where the warm dial and polished accents add just the right touch of sophistication without trying too hard.

Concluding thoughts

We still haven’t come to the price. At £370.00 GBP, the Duke comes across as a bit of a bargain, given how much of the experience is led by wearability, the ultra-thin profile, the fluid bracelet, and the tidy butterfly clasp closure all make it feel more considered than the price suggests. If you want a slim, smart rectangular watch that moves easily between office wear and dressed-up evenings, without feeling delicate or overly flashy, this is a very convincing option.

It is also worth noting that Wecord offer a smaller model variant across the available dial colours, which is a welcome choice if you prefer a more compact footprint. And if you like the idea of something more distinctive, there is a stone-dial collection in the works, well worth keeping an eye on, as it could bring the same sleek design with an even more characterful twist.

The Duke is a watch is for someone who wants a slim, smart everyday dress watch that wears effortlessly, especially on smaller wrists, with a fluid bracelet and discreet butterfly clasp that works well with shirts, suits, and lighter outfits. It also suits anyone who prefers the accuracy and low maintenance of Swiss quartz, but still wants an enthusiast-friendly touch in the salmon tapisserie dial.
